Cricket breakthrough for Benoni Northerns 1991, January 4
Denis Lindsay’s letter of thanks in 1988
I recall it was a most memorable occasion. A grand function where we gathered the Springboks from Denis’s era to honour him, a cricketing great and whom we were privileged to have as our friend. This event is part of our history at Northerns just prior to the Benoni Cricket Club’s amalgamation with Northerns.- Ted Jarvis
Donald Campbell organized the function - Denis was one of the first ever cricketers to be granted a benefit and I’m not sure exactly how much was raised I think it was about R 2000 but what I do know was that what ever the amount was, he gave it straight to a charity and to development of cricket to the disadvantaged. (1987)
Benoni first cricket side recorded their third consecutive victory to move into second spot in the Northern Transvaal Super League, when they beat PHOSB by 22 runs on the weekend. But coach Jim Presdee must still be having sleepless nights over the poor batting display by the top order batsmen.
Losing the toss on Saturday afternoon, Benoni were first in on a greenish pitch and proceeded to throw wickets away in the first hour, slumping to four wickets down with a mere 12 runs on the board.

Northerns cricket presentation enjoyed by all
The annual Benoni Northern Cricket Club presentation ceremony at the Northerns club house was indifferently attended but was none the less convivial and enjoyable affair.
Brian Alexander acted as master of ceremonies for the evening and announced the names of the many trophy winners and the presentations were made by Mrs Pat Anderson and club chairman, Pat Conway, following the lavish cheese and wine party.
